Ep 126: The power of Mindfulness & Meditation with Headspace teacher Eve Lewis

🎧 You can also listen to this and all of our other podcasts on iTunes, Spotify or wherever you enjoy listening to your podcasts

Hi lovely,

I have a gorgeous episode for you this week! I got to interview my dear, wonderful friend Eve Lewis on all things meditation and mindfulness.

Eve is a mindfulness and meditation teacher and she is the director of Meditation at Headspace

I have a real soft spot for Headspace, it is the app that taught me how to meditate, around 10 years ago. It’s one of my favourite apps and a firm staple in my self love toolkit 💕

If you’re familiar with Headspace, then you will likely recognise Eve’s voice in this episode as she’s one of the teachers in the app!

Eve and I met around 10 years ago when we both worked in advertising. We actually just celebrated a decade of friendship on a recent zoom date. And on that date, we each took a moment to connect with our younger selves and to celebrate the journey’s that we have both been over this past decade.

Mindfulness and meditation have, without a doubt, played a huge part in my self love and self development journey over this past decade. The practice of meditation has supported me through all kinds of ups and downs in my life and it’s had a big impact on how I relate to myself and how I relate to others too.

In this episode, we talk about:

  • Eve’s journey of how she came to work at Headspace as a teacher and ambassador of meditation.

  • The power of mindfulness (and the difference between mindfulness and meditation)

  • How to relate to anxiety in a mindful way.

  • How the practice of meditation helped me to cultivate a secure attachment in my relationships.

  • What a mindful approach to dating looks like

  • How mindfulness can help our relationships to thrive.

  • And so much more!

Here is the link to the study I mentioned, on the correlation between mindfulness and lower levels of attachment anxiety and attachment avoidance (fascinating!).

Here are the brilliant dating meditations that Eve did for Hinge.

The two attachment theory episodes I mentioned can be found here and here.

And finally, head here if you’d like to try Headspace for free.

I loved recording this episode so much.

I hope you enjoy it too!

Love, V xx

Ep 125: An incredible guide to death and dying with Anna Lyons and Louise Winter

🎧 You can also listen to this and all of our other podcasts on iTunes, Spotify or wherever you enjoy listening to your podcasts

Hi lovely,

It’s Selina here today, bringing to you what I feel is such a powerful and important conversation about a topic that many of us (myself included) really don’t talk about enough. And we need to.

In this episode I had the wonderful opportunity to talk to Anna Lyons and Louise Winter, authors of ‘We All Know How This Ends - Lessons about Life and Living from Working with Death and Dying’.

Anna is an end-of-life doula and Louise is a progressive funeral director and together they have written an incredible, practical guide to navigating death, dying, grieving, losing ones we love and supporting those that have lost a loved one.

They teach us how and why we all need to think about death in a radically different way and why it is important for us all to talk more about it more.

And so that is what we did in this episode. We talked about death and dying. From arranging funerals and the creative ways you can do it, to end-of-life care and how wonderful hospices in the UK are, to the best way to support someone when they are grieving the loss of a loved one, to the importance of us all getting more used to death by talking about it.

I cannot recommend their book more. I was hooked from the moment I started it. It really is one I think we should all read. You can pre-order it here.

Find out more about the work that Anna and Louise do here: https://www.lifedeathwhatever.com/

And follow them on instagram here @lifedeathwhat

Hope you enjoy this episode and find it as fascinating and valuable as I did.

Lots of love,

Selina x

Ep 124: LOVE: it’s not just for Valentine’s (from the archives!) - a live recording at Liberty London

🎧 You can also listen to this and all of our other podcasts on iTunes, Spotify or wherever you enjoy listening to your podcasts

Hello lovely!

If you’ve been following us for a while then you’ll know that we like to challenge the modern day narrative that love is something that comes from that one special romantic partner in life. This is one of the reasons why we like to hijack Valentine’s Day and use it to celebrate love in all its forms. And this year is no exception!

On Sunday we kicked off the start of our self-love challenge, 28 Days of Love and if you’re not already taking part, we’d love to invite you. This is our sixth year running it and it is always such a gorgeous four week journey, but this year, it feels like we all need it more than any other (right?!).

If you’re worn out from global pandemics, lockdown, homeschooling, working from home, not going on holiday for over a year...then self-love is the balm that will help you recover, reclaim your energy and navigate the Coronacoaster.

If you’d like to join us then head over here for all of the details (it’s totally free!)

And to get you in the mood we have pulled out one of our favourite podcast episodes from the archives: LOVE: it’s not just for Valentine’s, recorded two years ago at Liberty London. It is one of our favourite podcast episodes and so this week we are bringing it back from the archives!

In this episode we talk about:

  • Why we are so passionate about busting the modern day myth that love is something that comes from that one special romantic partner in life

  • The impact that belief has had on so many of our lives and our relationships.

  • How learning to love yourself is a skill that we can all get good at (and how it helps us to flourish as individuals and in our relationships)

  • The different ways you can weave self-love into your day to day life

  • Why so many of us resist self-love (and what to do about that)

  • And how, when you start to tune into that inner loving voice your life will start to transform from the inside out

We are sending you the biggest cuddle and we hope to see you over on Instagram for 28 days of love.

We hope you enjoy the episode 💕

Love, Vicki and Selina xxx

Ep 123: Q&A | Vicki answers your dating and relationship questions!

🎧 You can also listen to this and all of our other podcasts on iTunes, Spotify or wherever you enjoy listening to your podcasts

Hi lovely,

Vicki here - I hope this email finds you safe and well ❤️

In today’s episode, I answer some of your questions on dating and relationships (thank you for sending those in!)

Really loved creating this episode for you. There were lots of questions relating to attachment theory (which is great as it is my favorite topic to talk about!).

Specific questions that I answered in the episode:

  1. Is it possible for an anxious and an avoidant person to develop a secure and loving relationship?

  2. How do you deal with an avoidantly attached partner who isn't always sure they want to repair their attachment issues?

  3. How do I start calling in a securely attached partner rather than the avoidant ones I usually find myself drawn to?

  4. My partner and I are exclusive but he said he’s not ready to call me his girlfriend yet. Is this a red flag?

  5. I’m just about to move in with my partner. What are your tips for starting the next chapter of our lives in lockdown?

  6. How do I find the balance in my relationship, so I don’t lose myself?

This is the gorgeous TED talk that I mentioned - The person you really need to marry | Tracy McMillan

Here is the wonderful book on Attachment theory that I mentioned - Attached by Dr Amir Levine and Rachel Heller.

Ooh and I wanted to also share this brilliant video from The School of Life on ‘How to Cope With an Avoidant Partner.

And lastly, how would you like to receive a (free) weekly love letter from me on topics like the ones explored in today’s episode?

Every Sunday, I am talking about topics like; dating for your attachment style, compatibility, the appeal of the unavailable ones, how to spot the red flags of relationship availability and lots more!

If you’d like to receive my love letters 💌 then head over here to sign up and your first letter will be sent this Sunday (at 5pm gmt)!

Really hope you enjoy this Q&A episode 😍😍😍

So much love, Vicki x

Ep 122: Life as an anti-racism educator with Nova Reid

🎧 You can also listen to this and all of our other podcasts on iTunes, Spotify or wherever you enjoy listening to your podcasts

Hi lovely,

It’s Selina here 👋 and today I have my dear friend, the truly wonderful Nova Reid, back on the podcast for the third time to dive into the topic of racism, anti-racism and the work Nova does with white people to show them how to unpack their inner racism and white privilege and become good allies.

Nova is a diversity and anti-racism campaigner, writer and TED speaker. She regularly appears on BBC News, Sky News and BBC Radio as an expert on race and diversity matters and her book, the Good Ally is coming out at the end of this year!

While I’ve had Nova join me previously on the podcast to talk about white privilege and anti-racism and microaggressions and hidden racism, particularly in the workplace, this time I wanted to invite her back to share what 2020 was like for her, as an anti-racism educator and black woman living in Britain, in the wake of the murder of George Floyd and the Black Lives Matter movement.

I feel that people often don’t realise how hard, how painful and how traumatic doing this work often is for Nova. For me she truly is one of the strongest, smartest, most extraordinary, compassionate and powerful people I know. Doing her course ‘Anti-racism and White Privilege’ was life changing for me and I cannot recommend it more to any white person wanting to do the essential work of unpacking their own inner racism and learning how to become a good ally.

So dive into this episode where we talk about all of this and more.

And don’t forget to pre-order Nova’s book ‘The Good Ally’, at Waterstones, WHSmith or Amazon.

X Selina

Ep 121: Sometimes you have to STOP being the strong, resilient, coper when times are tough

🎧 You can also listen to this and all of our other podcasts on iTunes, Spotify or wherever you enjoy listening to your podcasts

Hi lovely,

How are you doing this week? Here in the UK things have not been easy. A lot of people are really struggling with this latest lockdown, including us! So if you’re one of those people, then know that you are not alone. This is tough and while resilience, resourcefulness and inner strength will help us get through this, sometimes you have to stop being the strong, resilient one.

If you tend to be the one that is often there for others, if you identify with being a good coper or pride yourself on being strong in times of struggle, then sometimes you need to drop all that and let yourself feel all the feelings, without judgement. And NO telling yourself that you shouldn’t be feeling that way because other people have it much worse than you. Your feelings need to be acknowledged and felt. Suppressing them and brushing under the carpet DOES NOT WORK.

In fact I have a whole section on that in my new book Burnt Out and I share how one tool, in particular, in there has really been helping me over the past few weeks.

And talking of my book!...I have a VERY exciting announcement!

The wonderful team at Octopus feel that the world needs ‘Burnt Out’ NOW and so rather than making you all wait until 15th April when the paperback book comes out, they have released the ebook version of it TODAY!!!! So if you’re an ebook lover (or even if you’re never tried an ebook before) you can get ‘Burnt Out’ this minute for just £4.99!

The eBooks are available through Amazon, Apple, Google & Kobo, short links below:

Amazon: https://amzn.to/2KyNoRW

Google: http://bit.ly/3nVs7iH

Kobo: http://bit.ly/39OLa9o

If, like me, you’ve never read an ebook before, you can easily download an ebook reader for free on your laptop, tablet or smartphone. I’d never read an ebook before and am now a total convert!

And of course if you do buy Burnt Out as an ebook while you wait for the paperback, then it would make my year if you would leave a review.

Personally the section in the book on managing your Emotional Energy has really been helping me get through these past few weeks and that is where you will find the ‘Emotional Check-in’ tool that I talk about in today’s episode.

Let me know if you use it!

Lots of love,

Selina x

🎧 You can also listen to this and all of our other podcasts on iTunes, Spotify or wherever you enjoy listening to your podcasts

Hi lovely,

I have a fascinating episode for you today!

I got to speak to Margee Kerr and Linda Rodriguez McRobbie about their new book, ‘OUCH!: Why Pain Hurts, and Why it Doesn’t Have To’.

In this episode, we talk about:

  • Why pain isn’t all bad and how we can develop a healthy relationship with it

  • Resilience as a skill - something we can practice and cultivate over time

  • Why we need to come up with a bigger vocabulary for pain (because one word is used to describe so much!)

  • Heartbreak and why it hurts so much

  • How we can support our loved ones when they are in pain

  • And so much more!

I loved this conversation with Margee and Linda.

Really hope you enjoy it too!

Ep 119: Sober Curious Reset with Ruby Warrington

🎧 You can also listen to this and all of our other podcasts on iTunes, Spotify or wherever you enjoy listening to your podcasts

Hi lovely,

How are you doing this week? The general mood here in the UK seems to be 😳😤😫😖😭🤪🤯, so if you’re having a challenging time of it at the moment, know that you are not alone and we’re sending you big virtual hugs.

And I have a real treat for you with today’s episode. Just before Christmas I got to interview the wonderful and inspiring best-selling author and founder of the Numinous, Ruby Warrington who has just released her third book ‘The Sober Curious Reset: Change the Way You Drink in 100 Days or Less’, a follow on from her previous best-selling book, Sober Curious.

The book is brilliant, with lots of space to journal as you go through, but it was after this interview with Ruby that I felt compelled to actually DO the Sober Curious Reset.  I’m two weeks into it and while it has been a little challenging (particularly on Friday night!) I am absolutely loving it. I think this really could be a life changer.

So tune into this week’s episode to hear about Ruby’s own journey with alcohol and why she is such an advocate for breaking free from the cult of drinking and how The Sober Curious Reset can help you to transform your own relationship with alcohol and drinking.

Order your copy of The Sober Curious Reset here.

Lots of love,

x Selina

Ep 117: A final reflection on 2020 and the dreams you brought to life despite everything

🎧 You can also listen to this and all of our other podcasts on iTunes, Spotify or wherever you enjoy listening to your podcasts

Hi lovely,

We’re almost there! Almost at the end of 2020...phewf. It has been a tough year, there is no denying it. But it’s so important that rather than just writing it off altogether, we do take a moment to reflect and take a closer look at the year we’ve been through and in particular what we did manage to make happen in our lives despite it all.

You have.

You have had ideas and dreams that have come to life. There are things you wrote into your Goodbye 2019, Hello 2020 at the start of the year that are now in existence in your life today. You did that.

And so, before we all close our Goodbye 2019, Hello 2020 journals for good, we have a bonus exercise for you: A Final Reflection, where you take a look back at what you wrote in your journal a year ago and see which of those dreams and ideas that were first written into the pages of your journal, did in fact become a reality.

We want you all to see that even during a global pandemic, you did still bring some of your dreams and ideas to life.

You might even find that there are some things you wrote down that you completely forgot about, but that came true anyway...THAT is the magic of writing down your dreams and desires. They can take seed and grow, even without you focusing on them consciously.

So let’s celebrate that!

Get your Goodbye 2019, Hello 2020 journal and join us in this week’s episode (our final episode of the year!) as we talk you through the exercise and share our own answers and lessons learnt as we did ours.

You can get a PDF of the exercise by signing up over here.

And listen to the podcast here.

Next week we’ll be running a 5 day mini series on Design A Life You Love in 2021 and then we will be back with you at the start of January to go through our Goodbye 2020, Hello 2021 journals together.

Find out where to order your Goodbye 2020, Hello 2021 journal from here!

And in the meantime, we’ll be over on instagram @loveprojectlove sharing all the different places people are doing their Goodbye 2020, Hello 2021 journal this year - please share a photo if you’re on IG or send it to us via email - we LOVE getting shots of where people are doing their journals!

Ep 116: 7 lessons I’ve learnt about the anxious attachment style in love

🎧 You can also listen to this and all of our other podcasts on iTunes, Spotify or wherever you enjoy listening to your podcasts

Hiya lovely,

I’m so excited to share this week’s episode with you (my first solo one!) ✨

In the episode, I share the 7 lessons that I’ve learnt about love, dating and relationships as I celebrate 7 years of love coaching.

The lessons that I share are about what I’ve learnt when looking at my own relationship pattern through the lens of attachment theory (anxious attachment) and how this has shaped my love coaching work too.

Tune in to hear me share:

  • The three main Attachment styles and how they influence your mindset and attitudes to love, dating and relationships

  • Why anxious attachers are attracted to the people that are the least likely to meet their needs (inc why you’re attracted to the unavailable ones)

  • The Pursue-Withdraw pattern in relationships

  • The power of our minds in hindering or or helping us to move forward in our love lives

  • My own personal story of becoming more secure and fulfilled in love

  • The importance of self love and vulnerability on a dating journey

  • What it means to redefine your love blueprint to enjoy a happy and fulfilling love life

  • And so much more!

I absolutely loved recording this episode - I hope you enjoy it!

If you are listening to this episode feeling stuck in an unfulfilling relationship pattern like the ones I share, then I want you to know that change is possible. I really believe that with the right guidance and the willingness to learn and grow, that we can rewrite our relationship blueprints, to enjoy happy and fulfilling love lives.

I’ve just opened the doors to my 2021 love coaching programme - designed for women with an anxious attachment. This coaching programme is my absolute heart and soul and it contains everything I know, in 7 years of love coaching, about how to become more secure in love.

I’m holding discovery calls this month and in January. Come and check out vickipavitt.com (my brand new website 🤗) if you’re interested in joining me on this next adventure!

So much love, V xxx

Ep 114: Nature-based spirituality, finding wisdom in the trees and healing witch wounds with Isla Macleod

🎧 You can also listen to this and all of our other podcasts on iTunes, Spotify or wherever you enjoy listening to your podcasts

Hi lovely

It’s Selina here 👋, with an episode for you this week that I have been wanting to record for years.

I finally got to sit down with the magical queen of rituals and nature-based spirituality, Isla Macleod, to ask her a thousand and one questions about the way she lives and works in harmony and deep relationship with nature.

I have known Isla for about four years and have been mesmerised by her instagram account which shares her life amongst the trees, living in a yurt, going on pilgrimages and honouring the celtic festivals with nature-based rituals.

Isla is, in her words, is ‘a creator of ceremonies, ritual designer, transformational healer and companion at the thresholds. Inspired by nature, forged by my longing, devoted to remembering. Lover of moss, mushrooms, trees, wild swimming and moonlight’. I really recommend reading her ‘Who I am’ page on her website. You’ll fall in love.

You’ll also fall in love hearing her talk about the magic she experiences on a daily basis thanks to her deep relationship with the natural world and how any of us can start to bring that magic and relationship with the natural world into our own lives.

So without further ado...here is the episode. Enjoy!

Ep 113: Dating in Lockdown 2.0 - with David and Ahmad from The Authentic Dating Series

🎧 You can also listen to this and all of our other podcasts on iTunes, Spotify or wherever you enjoy listening to your podcasts

Hello, it’s Vicki here and I have a brilliant episode for you today.

I got to speak to dating coaches David and Ahmad - to talk about Dating in Lockdown and how lockdown, with all of its restrictions, can be a really positive time for dating and making new connections with people.

David and Ahmad are dating coaches who empower men to create meaningful and passionate connections based on authentic expression and emotional intelligence. And they do that through their Podcast The Authentic Dating Series’, their talks, events and coaching.

In this episode, David and Ahmad share their own personal dating journeys and how they have overcome fears of commitment and the fear of rejection and it’s this male vulnerability (and how they celebrate this in the work that they do) that I love about these two - something that is so often missing from the dating conversation.

I really hope this episode supports you on your dating journey.

And if you are looking for some support and guidance on your dating journey and you’d love to have me as your love and dating coach, cheering you on as you go on dates, helping you to release dating anxiety and fears and supporting you through the ups and downs of modern dating then do reach out! Simply send me an email with the word ‘LOVE’ as the subject to vicki@vickipavitt.com and I’ll tell you all about the coaching that I offer.

Ep 112: Making love last - lessons from 35 years together with Madeline and David McQueen

🎧 You can also listen to this and all of our other podcasts on iTunes, Spotify or wherever you enjoy listening to your podcasts

We are back! After our quarterly monthly break from recording and we are jumping back behind the mics with a special relationship episode.

We got together with the playful power couple: Madeline and David McQueen to talk about how they have made love last (while having two children and running a business together) for thirty two years.

I’ve known Madeline and David for over ten years and they offered me invaluable guidance and advice on love and relationships in the years when I was dating.  They have always been intentionally open about talking about their relationship and sharing about the ups and downs, warts and all, of being in a long term relationship. They believe passionately that friendship in your relationship is key and that every relationship requires work to help it to thrive.

They are also both coaches and so they bring a level of insight, self-awareness and a no-nonsense practical attitude to their relationship which you don’t often find in other couples.

They have so many pearls of wisdom to offer on how to make love last and so in this episode Vicki and I got to ask them about how they have made their love last for over thirty years and what advice they would give to others about how to cultivate a happy and healthy relationship.

As ever, when I speak to Madeline and David, I came away with so many gems and aha moments (and was squirming in my seat on a number of occasions too, as you’ll hear!). So I hope you find some valuable gems in this too.

If you enjoy this episode please leave us some of those shiny 5 STARS on your podcast channel - every review makes such a difference (and it makes our day)!

Lots of love,

x Selina
