Ep 110: Sabotage - how to silence your inner critic and get out of your own way with Emma Gannon

🎧 You can also listen to this and all of our other podcasts on iTunes, Spotify or wherever you enjoy listening to your podcasts

Hey there, it’s Selina here this week and I cannot wait for you to tune-in to this week’s episode. Because on the pod this week is none other than the wonderful Emma Gannon. I got to hang out with her on Monday to talk about her brand new book Sabotage: how to silence your inner critic and get out of your own way which is out TODAY!

It is such a brilliant book and considering I talk a lot about the topic of ways that we hold ourselves back in life and how to overcome those inner blocks, this book had a surprisingly powerful impact on me. It really did help me to get out of my own way and commit to my dreams with more power than ever before. I can’t recommend it more!

And if you haven’t heard of Emma Gannon before (although I suspect you will have) then you are in for a treat. Emma is a best-selling author, blogger, speaker and award-winning podcaster. Her book The Multi-Hyphen Method is one I recommend to anyone who loves the idea of creating their own career, her debut novel ‘Olive’ that came out this summer brings an incredibly important topic to the table - one of choosing to be child-free and her podcast Ctrl Alt Delete is the number one career podcast in the UK with the most incredible line up of guests ever.

The best way to get more of Emma is through her newsletter ‘The Hyphen’ - my favourite newsletter out there, subscribe to her podcast Ctrl Alt Delete and of course buy Sabotage, out today!

And now tune-in to this week’s podcast episode as Emma and I dive deep into the topic of sabotage!

Ep 107: The secret to creating a career you love...for life

🎧 You can also listen to this and all of our other podcasts on iTunes, Spotify or wherever you enjoy listening to your podcasts

Hello lovely, it’s Selina here 👋 full of excitement because TWO big things are happening this week.

First of all the Project Love Goodbye 2020, Hello 2021 journal is now today officially ON SALE! Order your copies over here

Aaaaaand on Tuesday my very own Audible Original Series: ‘The Career Change Coach’ went live!

I made this series at the start of the year. It was supposed to go live in April but then, well, you know...a global pandemic got in the way. And so finally it is out in the world and it is free on Audible UK!

💛 If you have Audible then adding it to your library and leaving a review would absolutely make my day! 💛

 >>> Download it on Audible today!

The series follows me as I take six people on a Career Change journey. Each episode follows a different person as I coach them and, between coaching sessions, send them off to experience something that will help them along on their journey. You’ll hear me offering tips on how to make a career change throughout the series and at the end of each person’s coaching journey you’ll hear me help them create a plan going forward.

The aim is that, by the end of the series, you will have learnt practical tips and gained confidence to embark on your own career change journey.

I really am so proud of this series and can’t wait for you to hear it too!

And to celebrate the series going live this week, I’m doing my first ever solo episode on the podcast! I talk about my own career journey over the past decade:

  • how I have created a career that I love

  • how I got into coaching

  • how I discovered that my intuition could be used in a practical way in my coaching

  • how listening to my dreams and taking those dreams seriously has been at the heart of my career

  • the importance of personal development and healing to enable you to create a career and life that you love

Lots of love,

X Selina

Ep 106: Looking at exercise in a whole new way

🎧 You can also listen to this and all of our other podcasts on iTunes, Spotify or wherever you enjoy listening to your podcasts

Hi lovely,

In this week’s episode we are talking about looking at exercise in a whole new way!

If you’ve listened to previous podcasts, then you’ll know that both of us have documented our (at times) huge resistance to exercise. In fact, if you told us a year ago that we would be doing a podcast episode on this, we wouldn’t have believed you!

In this week’s episode, we talk about how we have worked through our own resistance to exercise (and how you can do it too!), the many ways to get your body moving (including the activities and practices that work for us), tips on how to find what works for you. Plus so much more.

We had so much fun recording this episode - we hope you enjoy it!

We’d love to hear what resonated with you and where you are on your own exercise journey - simply reply to this email or send us a DM over on Instagram @loveprojectlove

Much love,

X Selina & Vicki

Ep 105: A fascinating conversation about love with Laura Mucha (author of ‘We Need to Talk About Love’)

🎧 You can also listen to this and all of our other podcasts on iTunes, Spotify or wherever you enjoy listening to your podcasts

Hello lovely, it’s Vicki here 👋

I have such a treat of an episode for you this week!

I got to interview Laura Mucha, who is the author of Love Factually: The Science of Who, How and Why We Love and We Need to Talk About Love (the paperback).

This book is such a fascinating read! It is the culmination of 10 years of extensive academic research and 10 years of interviews with hundreds of strangers, aged 8-95, across every continent around the world.

Laura Mucha is an ex-international lawyer and award-winning poet, writer and speaker. She has appeared on BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour, WNYC, ABC and Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch. The Guardian describes her as “a fantastic nosy parker” and Richard Curtis, creator of ‘Love Actually’, describes her book "as much better and more useful than my film". Wow - what a testimonial!

I loved reading Laura’s book. I’ve never come across a book that covers the ins and outs of love with such depth before. The book takes you on a journey that explores love and loss, infidelity and commitment, dating, monogamous relationships, non-monogamous relationships. Attachment theory and so much more. As well as talking about the lightness of relationships, the book also talks about the darkness of them too, including the complexities and nuances of abuse in relationships. We talk all about this in the episode and included below is a list of resources relating to abuse.

In this episode, we also talk about some of the most important lessons that Laura has learnt about love, in over a decade of research and interviews (including how it impacted her relationship with her ex partner who is now her husband!). And we talk about Attachment theory (which is actually the focus for Laura’s next book). I had sooo many questions on Attachment theory, that we’ve decided that Laura is going to come back onto the podcast to talk more about this fascinating topic. Also linked here is last year’s episode on Attachment theory with Psychologist Helen Dent (our most popular podcast episode!) and here is the episode about Attachment theory and dating.

This conversation with Laura is PACKED FULL of so much wisdom about love, I can’t wait for you to listen to it!

And before you do, I wanted to let you know that I have a couple of places left on my 3 month love coaching programme, starting in September and October this year.

This programme is my absolute heart and soul and it would be such a privilege to work with you if you’re feeling the call and you’re wanting some guidance and support on your love and dating journey.

If you are interested in working with me 1:1 this year and you would love to have me as your personal love coach and dating wing woman for three months then do get in touch - I would love to hear from you! Simply head on over here to find out more and to book in your discovery call!

I hope you enjoy the episode 💕💕💕

Love, Vicki X

Ep 104: Navigating motherhood with Nehanda Truscott Reid

🎧 You can also listen to this and all of our other podcasts on iTunes, Spotify or wherever you enjoy listening to your podcasts

Hi lovely,

It’s Selina here this week, flying solo for the first time since before lockdown with our first guest on the show since March. And wow, what a guest.

I had the pleasure and joy of getting deep into conversation with Nehanda Truscott Reid and it ended up being a truly transformative conversation for me and I have a feeling it could be for a lot of other people too, whether you are a mother, are thinking of becoming a mother or simply interested in the motherhood journey.

Nehanda is a mother of two, Holistic Wellness Coach and founder of The Soul Mama Journey where she supports women through the sacred transition of motherhood from pre conception onwards. Nehanda believes motherhood holds the potential to be a gateway of our deepest healing and transformation and is passionate about helping more women navigate this path consciously and spiritually.

And I will be honest, I’ve never really got into the whole ‘motherhood is sacred’ thing. In fact I’ve struggled a little with the identity of motherhood (as we unpack in this episode). But having devoured the episodes of Nehanda’s own podcast - the Soul Mama Podcast (which I cannot recommend more) I felt so inspired to explore motherhood in a new way with Nehanda and wanted to bring you guys along on the journey with me.

And wow am I glad I did. This conversation was SO powerful for me. It really shifted something within me. I’ve been experiencing a whole new level of joy and connection to my son and within my role as a mother ever since. And so I cannot wait for you to listen to this too.

Spread this among the mothers you know and love - lockdown has been one hell of a testing time and the words from Nehanda are like a soothing and healing balm.

To find out more about Nehanda and how to work with her (which I couldn’t recommend more), visit her at: www.soulmamajourney.com

Ep 103: Getting used to living a new ‘normal’

🎧 You can also listen to this and all of our other podcasts on iTunes, Spotify or wherever you enjoy listening to your podcasts

Hi lovely,

We are back after a one month break and the world is still feeling weird. Here in the UK, while we’re not in full lockdown anymore, things have certainly not returned to normal, but then, as Edward Enninful, editor of UK Vogue says in his brilliant editor’s letter for the August issue (mentioned in this week’s episode) ‘there is no normal to return to’.

And so we feel it’s important to not try to normalise this new way of living, but to keep addressing the challenges of living in the shadow of a global pandemic, while also continuing to look at the unexpected opportunities that have come with these unprecedented times.

And so that is what we’re doing in this week’s episode: exploring how we are adjusting to living a life that isn’t like the life we were once all living. And how we are continuing to find opportunities for growth, learning, fun and adventure in amongst it all.

Project Love Coaching Programmes - doors now open!

We have been LOVING coaching over the past few months. This is a time so ripe for change - people just seem ready for it. And we are opening up our doors again to take on new clients. Selina has spaces on her two Career Coaching programmes starting this month and Vicki has spaces on her Love Coaching programme starting in September.

If you’re ready to transform your career or love life, then we are ready to take you on that journey. Come and book in a discovery call!

Ep 102: It’s time for a quarterly check-in! ✨

🎧 You can also listen to this and all of our other podcasts on iTunes, Spotify or wherever you enjoy listening to your podcasts

Hello lovely,

We hope you are doing well?

With July fast approaching, it is time to grab your Goodbye 2019, Hello 2020 journal and join us for a quarterly check-in.

And what a historic quarterly review this one will be!

Join us for this episode as we reflect on the last 3 months, share the progress we’ve made and our new commitments for the next 3 months. If you don’t have a journal, then simply answer the questions as we go through them 😍

As the entire last quarter was spent in lockdown here in the UK, we talk about regrouping and giving yourself permission to check-in with the intention set at the beginning of the year and allowing yourself to either realign or reset it completely for 2020.

As always, we find these reviews such a nourishing opportunity to practice gratitude and remind ourselves about the challenges we’ve overcome and to reflect on our proudest moments – and we hope you do too.

We will also be doing our first quarterly Love-In on Monday 29th June at 1pm (BST) on Zoom. We will be running these every quarter as a chance for us all to pause and reflect on the past 3 months and set our intentions and commitments for the following three months. Sign up here to join us!

We really hope you enjoy this episode. It’s the last in the season as we take our scheduled podcast break in July. We’ll see you back in August for a brand new season and brand new podcast guests 🥳

Much love,

X Selina & Vicki

EP 7 Life in Lockdown Series | Changing Career in Lockdown

🎧 You can also listen to this and all of our other podcasts on iTunes, Spotify or wherever you enjoy listening to your podcasts

Hi lovely,

How are you doing this week? We’ve been finding that while lockdown is easing here in the UK, it isn’t necessarily feeling any easier for a lot of us. It’s so important that we remember that we don’t have to pretend that we’re doing ‘fine’ all the time.

It’s also important that we don’t start to feel like we’re treading water and going nowhere. Just because 2020 may have had different plans for us, doesn’t mean we can’t make the most of the unexpected time and space that many of us have been given. For a lot of us this time has been a huge opportunity for reflection and taking stock, getting clear on what is most important to us, what we want more of in our lives and what we want less of. And if you’ve decided that what needs to change in your life is your career, then this episode is for you.

For the first time in nine months, now that her book on Burnout is finished, Selina is finally opening the doors to her Career Change Coaching programmes!

So we put her in the hot seat in today’s episode, to talk about why now can be such a powerful time to focus on changing career, particularly if what you are looking for is a career that gives you freedom and flexibility and that can be created online.

So if you’re feeling like it is time to take the leap and discover what it is you really want to do with your life and make that change, then tune into this week’s episode and find out all about Selina’s Career Change Coaching Programmes at selinabarker.com - just think, by September you could know exactly what career lights you up and be on the path to making it your full-time career! Let the adventures begin!

Ep 6 Life in Lockdown Series | Managing the emotional rollercoaster of the past few weeks

🎧 You can also listen to this and all of our other podcasts on iTunes, Spotify or wherever you enjoy listening to your podcasts

Hi lovely,

I hope you are well and making your self-care a top priority at the moment. These past few weeks have been another huge historic moment in our lives and one big global emotional rollercoaster, the likes of which most of us have never experienced before in our lifetime. From grief, to pain, to trauma, to anger, to shame, to guilt - there are a lot of big heavy emotions going on collectively as the anti-racism movement rises up and takes centre stage in our lives. And so this week on the podcast we wanted to talk about that. About how to navigate these times of big emotions - from grief, to anger, to shame, the tools that we’ve been using ourselves and of course the all important topic of active anti-racism and collective healing.

We hope that this episode helps you to take a deep breath, slow things down and remember what you need right now to help you to grieve, heal, release your shame, whatever it may be. Use those tools.

And below you’ll find a list of the people and resources we mention in the podcast episode.

Sending you huge amounts of love,

Selina & Vicki

Ep 5 Life in Lockdown Series | Anti-racism and Lessons from lockdown

🎧 You can also listen to this and all of our other podcasts on iTunes, Spotify or wherever you enjoy listening to your podcasts

Hello lovely,

It has been a heavy few weeks in the world and when we recorded this on Monday we were really feeling it.

Our plan was to talk about looking to the future and the positive lessons we’ve learnt during lockdown that we want to carry through as we emerge from it step by step, but when it came to recording, all we wanted to talk about was anti-racism and in particular what we are doing as white women to commit to doing anti-racism work, not just something we dip in and out of, but something we remain firmly committed to on a daily basis, for life.

We share what we’re doing right now to be actively anti-racist and what we are committed to doing from now on.

If you are white and wondering what you can do, then the key is to listen to the lived experience of black and brown people and never stop listening. Follow black and brown educators but rather than popping into their DMs to ask them to educate you for free, buy their courses and their books. Do the work to shine a light on your own inner racism. We all have it, particularly if we think we don’t. This is an inside outside job as all great transformations are. Breathe through the shame and discomfort that will inevitably bubble up. Welcome it.

Here are the resources, books and black anti-racism educators we mention.

Nova Reid - an anti-racism campaigner, educator and writer, has been on the podcast to talk to Selina twice about anti racism - those episodes are here and here. But in particular we recommend you follow Nova on Instagram NovaReidOfficial, listen to her own new podcast ‘Conversations with Nova Reid’ and do her anti-racism course

We also recommend the book ‘Me and White Supremacy’ by Layla Saad and Reni Eddo Lodge’s book ‘Why I’m no longer talking to white people about race’. Here is the Instagram post that we mentioned from Pandora Sykes on book recommendations and Jolyon Rubinstein’s Instagram is another one to check out. Also check out our friends at @housegospelchoir for messages of hope, strength and unity and healing music to lift your spirits.

Second part of the episode: Life in Lockdown - Lessons Learnt

As lockdown starts to ease in many parts of the UK, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on some of the positive lessons that we’ve learnt during this time and some of the new habits and rituals that we’ve been cultivating.

As you listen to this episode, we invite you to have a think of your own lessons from lockdown. Perhaps there are some new ways of living and working that you’d like to bring into your life post-lockdown?

For both of us, we’ve been appreciating the simplicity and slower pace of life and plan to maintain that as we move forward. And if there is one thing that we’re excited about returning to post lockdown, it is most definitely HUGS and spending quality time with loved ones.

Sending you a big hug from both of us 😍

We hope you enjoy the episode.

Love, Vicki and Selina xxx

How are you doing?

Here in the UK we are still in lockdown and it’s now been over 50 days. Phewf. If you missed it last week, we are back with our weekly podcast and while the lockdown continues in the UK, each weekly podcast episode will be focused on ‘Life in Lockdown’.

Now, this week we’re talking about dating during lockdown. Believe it or not it is a great time to be dating! Vicki shares how her clients have been finding that dating during lockdown has actually opened up the opportunity for more connectedness, playfulness and more meaningful conversations. So whether you’re dating or you just love hearing about love stories, head on over to wherever you listen to your podcasts and tune in!

You can also listen over on our website here:

EP 101: Your first quarterly review of the year...and what a year it's been so far!

🎧 You can also listen to this and all of our other podcasts on iTunes, Spotify or wherever you enjoy listening to your podcasts

Hi lovelies,

It is time for you to grab your Goodbye 2019, Hello 2020 journal and turn to the quarterly check-ins, because it is time for our first quarterly review of the year. And what a historic quarterly review this one will be!

It is incredible to think that we are only 3 months into the year. January feels like a different lifetime. But here we are, knee deep in a global pandemic. We both found that doing this quarterly review was actually incredibly grounding. Your plans for this quarter might have been completely derailed by everything that is going on. So it is time to regroup and see what intentions we can set for the next three months that will help us through these uncertain times.

Even if you haven’t got the journal, you can still get it over on Amazon or simply tune into the episode today and do it along with us.

We are now taking a break for a month on the podcast BUT…

We are running a weekly Love-In over on Zoom every week on Monday at 1pm BST during self-isolation. It’s a chance for us to get together for a big virtual hug. We have been LOVING them so far. Join in by signing up over here: https://loveprojectlove.com/lovein

You’ll of course still find us over on @loveprojectlove on instagram AND we have both started our own channel on instagram: @vickithelovecoach and @selinathecoach so come and follow us over on those channels as we share how to navigate love, relationships and dating (Vicki) and living life and working from home (Selina) during the time of Coronavirus.

Also mentioned in this episode…

28 Days of Love - a free self-love challenge - might be exactly what you need right now

Donna Lancaster @donnalancs on instagram - who is running grief events and generally offering us all wisdom, love and support during these times.

Hope you enjoy doing this historic quarterly review with us and we’ll be back with you in May for lots more!

See you over on the Love-Ins in the meantime.

Hello lovely 👋, it’s Vicki here, with a gorgeous real love story podcast for you 💖

Today’s episode (recorded in Feb) is an interview with Nina, who I met back in 2014 when we were launching the pilot for the Get Ready for Love course.

Nina was one of the 14 women who Selina and I wrote a Valentine’s Day card to, to invite them onto the journey of getting ready for love. In the episode, Nina shares the key milestones from her own Get Ready for Love journey and the valuable lessons she’s learnt along the way.

This is such a beautiful love story, not only because Nina shares her story about her partner Adam, but also her own self-love journey and I can’t wait for you to listen to it!

And if you are also wanting to go on your own Get Ready for Love journey then I am currently offering a discount on my 121 coaching programme, where all coaching sessions will be hosted via Zoom while we are self-isolating.

It may be that you’re thinking this could be a strange time to begin the dating journey, but with more people staying at home, dating apps are seeing a rise in usage – with messages, telephone calls and FaceTime. I’ve been having some great conversations with my existing clients about this and many of them are really enjoying dating virtually and actually finding this to be much more relaxed. You may not feel in the right headspace to date at all, and this won’t suit everyone, but if you are wanting to stay connected, then give telephone / FaceTime dating a try! 🙌

The Get Ready for Love programme that I offer is focused on creating the right conditions for a happy and fulfilling relationship, starting with yourself, and so it’s a process of self-love and self-development as much as a dating journey. If you’d like to join me on this journey of transformation, then I would LOVE to hear from you. Get in touch at Vicki@loveprojectlove.com or alternatively, head over toloveprojectlove.com/lovecoaching where you’ll find all the details.

I hope you enjoy the episode 💕💕💕

Lots of love, Vicki xxx

EP 99: The power of coming together with Gemma Brady, founder of Sister Stories

🎧 You can also listen to this and all of our other podcasts on iTunes, Spotify or wherever you enjoy listening to your podcasts

Hi lovely,

With everything that is going on in the world and in each of our lives at the moment, we wanted to give you an episode this week that inspires you, nourishes you and reminds you of the power of coming together in times like these.

And so I invited the wonderful Gemma Brady, founder of Sister Stories, onto the podcast to talk about exactly that: the deep and cathartic power of being heard and the beauty and magic that comes with holding a space as someone shares their truth. And how to create that space for you and your friends or with strangers.

And there can be no better time or greater need for this kind of deep mutual support than now.

So we talked about how to create circles like this, how to do it online and why we all have a deep need for this kind of ritual and deep connection and how simple it can actually be to create the space for that.

So I hope you find this episode nourishing, reassuring and inspiring. I certainly did as I was recording the episode on Monday evening.

And if you want to have a go at running your own sister circle now (online) or in the future, then here is the free download guide from Gemma on how to do it.

And if you’re interested in the online training to become a Sister Stories facilitator that starts in April, you can find full details over here.
